Class Description
Art is our history. It tells the story of our culture, our movements, our struggle, and our hope. Step into the world of great African artists like renowned artist Jacob Lawrence, Bisa Butler, Faith Ringgold, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Romare Bearden and more to learn and create your own artistic pieces. All the projects will be completed during class time and full participation is expected. Please show up on the first day of class with paints, canvas boards and paintbrushes. Thank you. Class Skills Development
By the end of the quarter, you will have a portfolio of mixed media art and knowledge of historical facts about these groundbreaking African Artists who shaped, inspired, and blazed the way for future generation of modern art.

About the Instructor
Necilia Jones is a photographer and light/life coach specializing in Necilia Jones is a mother of three children, Destiny Nyala (age 27), Dennis Kwame (DJ Kwame) (age 18) and DeAngelo Kwabena (age 15). All of them have attended NationHouse Watoto School. She is also the author of two books under the pseudonym, SolJornah Jones. They are Black Eyed Susan and Other Essences and Soul Journey: The Soul Less Traveled (https://www.bbotw.com). Necilia Jones received a Bachelor of Art in Business Administration (Management) in June 2020 and an associate degree in Photographic Imaging in 2011. She is certified as Master Reiki and Crystal Reiki practitioner and hosts art therapy workshops and classes to clear and heal chakra centers. She also enjoys painting, sewing, and writing. Her interests are reading, music composition and art, sound, and physical therapy (yoga, meditation, sound baths, etc.), all things ancient, environmental, and animal conservation projects and anthropology of diverse cultures.
