Class Description
Ubora Algebra 1 & 2 is a dynamic, culturally grounded High School Math course that combines the full curricula of Algebra 1 and Algebra 2 into one powerful learning experience. Scholars will explore equations, functions, inequalities, polynomials, quadratic and exponential expressions, and real-World problem-solving while developing critical thinking skills that extend beyond the classroom. Rooted in the principles of Sankofa, the course connects Mathematical concepts to African contributions in Mathematics, making learning both rigorous and relevant. By the end of the semester, students will have a strong Algebraic foundation, increased confidence in tackling complex problems, and the skills needed for advanced Math and Science courses.
Class Skills Development
Solve and graph linear, quadratic, and exponential equations and inequalities. Apply algebraic reasoning to real-world and culturally relevant problems. Analyze and interpret functions using multiple representations (graphical, algebraic, numerical). Simplify and manipulate polynomials, radicals, and rational expressions. Use Algebra to model patterns, trends, and relationships in data. Communicate Mathematical thinking clearly and effectively.

Laptop or desktop computer with reliable internet connection Notebook (graph or lined) for notes and problem-solving Pencils and eraser Scientific calculator (e.g., TI-30X or similar) – graphing calculator optional but recommended Ruler and protractor Access to Google Classroom (for assignments and resources) Course handouts and worksheets (provided by instructor)

Be On Time – Log in promptly and be ready to learn. Stay Engaged – Participate actively, keep cameras on if possible, and minimize distractions. Respect Everyone – Listen when others speak, use polite language, and value different perspectives. Come Prepared – Have your materials ready: notebook, pen, calculator, and assignments. Ask Questions – Speak up when you don’t understand; curiosity is welcome. Complete Work on Time – Submit assignments by the given deadlines. Follow Online Etiquette – Mute when not speaking, use chat responsibly, and avoid interruptions. Stay Positive – Encourage classmates and approach challenges with a growth mindset.

Mugwagwa Sibanze is a committed and skilled online educator from Zambia with over 5 years of experience teaching Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology to students from 5th Grade through Advanced Placement (AP) level. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology (BSc.HB) from Lusaka Apex Medical University (LAMU), with a strong foundation in the Natural Sciences.
