Class Description

*Math is a Language of the Universe* meets on Mondays from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm for instruction and Tuesdays for work lab from 2:45-3:45 pm*. *Instruction* _Mondays_ are to teach the skill and *Math Lab* _Tuesdays_ are for students to work on and receive guidance as they work on the skill. This course spans continuously in sequential parts across school years, and goes at the speed of collective student progress until GED & SAT mastery. Each semester, we will follow our work from previous semesters, from the world of partial numbers - into negative operations, exponents, and PEMDAS. The course is a decolonized, guided approach to mastering and understanding mathematical processes needed for college entrance, by skill (_Fraction Operations, Exponent Operations, Negative Operations, PEMDAS, Algebraic Problem Solving, Geometric Problem Solving_, etc.,). Practice the rhythm and logic behind processes in order to truly appreciate mathematics as the movement of our Universe.

Class Skills Development (at the end of the class students will have learned what?) *

In this follow-up Foundations class, we will continue our practice in Partial #s by: understanding what fractions are and how to work them --and what decimals are and how to work with them. Dependent on student pace, we may also delve into exponents, negatives and PEMDAS.

Class Materials

Recommended MATERIALS (to make Math the most interactive, fun, artsy - for visual-kinesthetic learners): 1. If at all possible, please have a Tablet with Stylus (makes it much easier to see practice in live time) 2. The Tablet program: One Note, if possible 3. Physical Math Notebook that can be painted on (if you haven’t already) Purple, black, blue, white, yellow paint are recommended at least to capture the concept “Math is a Language of the Universe” 4. Sharpened Pencil / Mechanical Pencils (like: Mechanical Pencils: https://a.co/d/fcwGUC9 5. Retractable Highlighters: https://a.co/d/e8SmsG5 6. Colored Pens: Recommended: https://a.co/d/7blAZDl 7. Shape Stencil/Ruler: https://a.co/d/3JtJi6D

Class Norms

Be studious, be respectful, be kind, cameras on - do homework each week and work to commit skill to memory each week
